Interested in renting quality affordable housing? Would you like to own your own home? Could you use a Grant to help you purchase a Home? Do you need help accessing a loan or mortgage in order to buy a house?

We can help: Providing Affordable Housing in the Hill

In 1980 a group of residents interested in the economic progress of the Hill neighborhood of New Haven founded the Hill Development Corporation of New Haven (HDC). Since then, HDC has served as an advocate for economic development in the Hill. In addition, it has participated in that development by building and rehabilitating housing and encouraging homeownership in the Hill. HDC is currently working to rehabilitate vacant, abandoned homes in the Hill. Once these homes are rehabilitated, they will be sold to first-time homebuyers. As mentioned above, HDC has now expanded its service area to include New Haven County. Other recent and current projects include a tenant cooperative and a local day care center.

HOMEBUYER COUNSELING

If you are interested in buying a home, or if you already own your home and would like to fix it up, we can help you obtain financing. Kerri Ward, HDC s housing specialist, has vast experience working with potential homebuyers in the City of New Haven. Because buying your first home can be a very intimidating process, HDC offers homebuyer seminars. The seminars cover establishing and repairing credit, budgeting, working with a real estate agent, the mortgage application process and closings. One-on-one counseling is also available to cover these issues and others, including Refinancing, Foreclosure Prevention as well as Mortgage Default Counseling.
