LULAC Hill Parent Child Care Center

This 1998 Project was developed by HDC for the LULAC Headstart program. HDC acted as Sole Developer of this Turn-Key development and was instrumental in garnering the funds for this endeavor.

This project is over 20,000 square feet and provides daycare for over 180 kids. The Project was financed primarily with Bond funds from the State Department of Social Services (DSS) and the Connecticut Health and Educational Facilities Authority (CHEFA). The land was donated by The City of New Haven who also contributed over $650,000 for Construction of the site. This project was completed in January of 2000 and has given the Hill area another service that was sorely missing.

HDC continues to work on projects that will enhance the Hill neighborhood, as plans are now under way to rehabilitate over 100 houses for homeownership in the next two years. HDC is also working on converting the old Columbus West rental housing units into a tenant cooperative. This project should be completed in May 2002. For over twenty years, HDC has worked to make the Hill a better community by constructing and rehabilitating housing for low and moderate-income people.
