HILL DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION OF NEW HAVEN.

What is the Hill Development Corporation of New Haven ("HDC")?

HDC is a Private independent Non-Profit organization that is dedicated to providing decent safe affordable housing for Low to Moderate-income persons of Urban City neighborhoods in New Haven County. We have assisted numerous persons with either acquiring homes or homeownership counseling. We have built or rehabbed over 600 units of housing since our inception in 1980.

What programs does HDC currently have for its Hill residents?

HDC currently provides homeownership counseling, credit counseling, and we provide homeownership counseling classes on a quarterly basis.

My Credit has not been exactly perfect; can I still purchase a home?

The answer is yes, with the assistance of HDC staff they can help you work out your credit issues and give you the one on one homeownership counseling that you need. They will also refer you to their homeownership workshops where you will learn in a group setting information that will guide you to homeownership. For more information on this topic please call the HDC office at 776-3759 and ask for Kerri Kelshall Ward, Deputy Housing Administrator at HDC.

I am not in a position to purchase a home right now; does HDC have properties for rent?

HDC currently owns over 70 units of Rental Housing for low to moderate-income persons. If you are interested in the location and in renting any of these units you can call the Management office of Hill Housing at 787-9006 and ask for Charmaine Chavies the Property Manager.

Who makes the decisions regarding how HDC serves the Hill neighborhood and its programs?

A Board of Directors made up of Hill Residents, Businesses, Hill Institutions governs HDC and others as permitted in the by-laws who make all the decisions of the corporation in the best interest of the Urban Neighborhoods it serves. They meet at least seven times a year and are very active in the community, the current President of the HDC Board is Catherine Sutton-Dawson. The Board hires a staff to carry out all its directives.
